![]() Most of us are likely familiar with the term NIMBY or Not In My BackYard. People who subscribe to this perspective are often resistant to changes in their neighbourhood such as a new apartment building or subsidized housing. There also exists YIMBY (Yes In My BackYard) folks as well who are often looking for ways to offer a variety of housing options in all neighbourhoods. I have been a part of a local YIMBY group for the last year or so. We have hosted an affordable housing mini-conference, led book club nights, have spoken to council, and had a booth at last year's Multicultural Festival - all with the goal to further the discussion on what we can do to address the challenges around the lack of affordable housing for many people. Last week the WR Record ran this article explaining a bit more about this group. I also appeared on Brian Bourke's radio show to discuss the group and Kitchener Today wrote this summary of that discussion. If you'd like to find out more about YIMBY, please connect with us on Facebook or reach out to me personally. #365ofgoodWR
