Union

Last month I had the opportunity to participate in a Union meeting. Not a labour union meeting however. This meeting was about the recently formed Union: Sustainable Development Cooperative. Their goal is to democratize "city building by empowering its members to collectively buy, upgrade, and manage commercial and residential properties to improve the economic, social, and environmental health of Waterloo Region."

Union offers a unique way to address an ongoing and increasing challenge: access to affordable housing. Additionally the folks at Union view all of their decisions through a sustainable, environmental, and social lens.  How they got here and where they are headed is described in this month's The Community Edition.
