Well this weekend's warm weather is making me think we may actually have a summer eventually! And that has me researching The Working Centre's Summer Institute on Grassroots Sustainability. It runs July 31st-Aug 2nd at the Fresh Ground cafe. The workshops "are geared to describing the philosophy and skills that enable The Working Centre to walk the fine line of rooting in community while remaining responsive, reflective, and guided by virtues." During the Summer Institute, participants will tour St John's Kitchen, as well as attend workshops on placemaking, bureaucratic barriers, the workings of an alternative organization, and reflect on the Working Centre as an ecosystem. Last winter I was fortunate to attend the Working Centre's 4 month Diploma in Local Democracy course. The course challenged my thinking in a number of ways as I learned more about the Working Centre's unique approach and the importance of focusing on the 'local'. I don't doubt that the Summer Institute will provide a similar level of learning so I would encourage you to attend if you're able. #365ofgoodWR
