I've written previously about public art, and I will continue to do so because I love it so much :) Whenever I travel, I love discovering the pieces of art that are unique to that city or town. I also enjoy learning about the artist and if they have other installations elsewhere. I feel like I learn a little more about the place I'm in through its art. Of course, we are so fortunate to have excellent examples of public art right here in Waterloo Region, possibly some within walking distance of your home, school, or workplace. I love visiting some of my favorite pieces and delight in discovering previously 'unknown-to-me' art installations. I hesitate to list some of my current favourites as there are just too many to list in one post. However, I'll name a couple I'm really enjoying lately, with the hopes that you, dear readers, will expand the list by commenting below with some of your favourites! I love the simple yet engaging humans by Trisha Abe. I'm enthralled with the bright and colourful shapes that Stephanie Boutari creates. I appreciate the whimsy of art by Pamela Rojas. And everytime I see something by Michelle Purchase, I'm transported back to my childhood 'tree-fort' days.
Like I said, this is only a small sample of our amazing local artists, so please add your current favourites in the comment section. (Side note: many of our local artists have been connected with either CAFKA and/or Globe Studios - 2 really important artistic initiatives in our area with learning more about). #365ofgoodWR
