![]() So far, most of my #365ofgoodWR posts have related to some of the amazing social organizations we have in our community. Of course, there are lots of others making good things happen in our region, including local musicians. I have really enjoyed hearing from many of our local artists whether that's at local festivals, the neighbourhood pub, or even at house concerts. Today I want to highlight just a few of those. A favourite artist of mine is Richard Garvey. Richard's passion for community building and social justice (he's also part of Hold The Line) is obvious in his song lyrics, plus the tunes will get your feet stomping! I have had the chance to hear Richard at several house concerts. The cozy atmosphere provides the perfect place to hear Richard's songs and enjoy his terrific sense of humour. And good news...he has a new album coming out soon! House concerts are a great way to connect with a particular artist, however, visiting local pubs is a terrific way to hear new artists. Both TWB and Descendants bring in great musicians throughout the week. At Descendants this month and next, most Saturday afternoons you can hear Matt Weidinger play as part of their Musical Matinee Saturdays. Find out more here. In addition to offering a place to hear musicians, TWB also gives you a chance to join in the fun every Thursday evening with their Acoustic Folk Jams. Bring along your favourite instrument whether that's a banjo, acoustic guitar, ukulele, or even simply your voice! All skill levels are welcome to join in these fun and interactive evenings. Or feel free to just grab a local beer from the bar and hang out. This is just a small sample of the great music available in our community. Feel free to comment below with your favourite local musician or musical event!
