Extend-A-Family Waterloo Region is a local organization focused on inclusion through building relationships. They have been around for over 35 years and offer a wide variety of programs, workshops, and events. One of their programs is the FamilyHome program. The FamilyHome program provides a chance for you to share your home with an adult with a disability. You'll provide "a caring, stable home environment that promotes acceptance, a focus on dignity, and help to create belonging." So who can be a FamilyHome provider? Folks from all walks of life and backgrounds participate in this program: couples, single people, a group of roommates; some providers may have children or pets, others do not. They may live in a house, or an apartment, in town, or in the country. However, they all go through a screening process and are offered continued support from Extend-A-Family staff. Training is provided as is a per diem payment, and regular respite.
