![]() Today's #365ofgoodWR is not specific to Waterloo Region, though the issue affects many here. Today I want to highlight the Canadian Cancer Society's Dry Feb campaign and my brother's fundraising though that. Today's photo is from my dad's 60th birthday...a day we weren't sure we would get to celebrate at one point. Almost 20 years ago my dad was diagnosed with a rare form of cancer and at the time we were told that patients with that type of cancer rarely survived more than 5 years. So needless to say, when we got to celebrate dad's 60th birthday almost 15 years after that, we were all thrilled! Dad's medications have been a huge help in keeping the cancer at bay. It's been fascinating to see the research and changes in treatment and approaches over the 2 decades my dad has been dealing with cancer. There are many different organizations offering support to those with cancer and I know we have benefitted from several including WellSpring London, Trillium Foundation, and the Canadian Cancer Society. On that note, for the last 4 years, my brother has been fundraising through the Dry Feb campaign to raise money for cancer research. You can find out more about what he's doing on his fundraising page. Thanks to all the people who are working to end cancer we still have my dad around, almost 20 years after his diagnosis. In honour of that, here's a few more pictures of my dad :)
