City Resolution #17

Today's city resolution challenges us to "rethink whether you really need the size of house you think you need. And all the stuff you think you need to fill it. Buy less stuff. Especially big stuff with way too much packaging."

As I was reflecting on this challenge I recalled going through our house before we purchased it for that final house inspection. My spouse and I loved so much about our soon-to-be home but we did both comment on not only how much storage space there was, especially for an older home, but how the previous owners had managed to fill all of those spaces up! We were sure there was no way we could ever fill those spaces to capacity. And indeed, when we moved in, we were absolutely right. We had more storage space than we could use. However, a decade later we find ourselves using far more of that storage space than we ever thought we would. In fact, this is our summer project - clearing out some of those storage spaces from all of the stuff we seem to have accumulated in the last decade.

Clearing out that stuff though is only one part of today's city resolution. The next part is to not fill up the space again once it gets cleared out! And when we deem a purchase necessary, we also need to consider the packaging too.

Do you have any tried and true strategies to help meet this challenge? if so, share below! #365ofgoodWR
